h3. Connecting to 53xx Phone Set

h5. Can UC Express connect to the phone across a firewall?

UCX connects to the phone on port 5060 so any intervening firewalls must allow that port to pass.

h3. Dialing Rules

h5. With "Dial Area Code" enabled, UC Express will add 9+ area code when the number digits length is 7 or more. If this is the behavior, how user dial Feature Access Code (FAC) + DN?

Solution: This is a case where you would want a "User Defined Dialing Rule"

So the rule we want to define starts with * or #
Next is the 2 digits of the FAC code
Then the 4 or 5 digits of the DN

For example: Let's set up a Speed Call to Call Forward (*69) to DN 55555

1) In UC Express open the "settings" dialog.
2) You can leave "Use Windows telephony location" and "Dial area code for local calls" checked.
3) Select "Dialing Rules - Advanced" from the left side of the "setting" dialog.
4) Click "Add" to create a new rule. This will opne the "edit Phone Number Dialing rule" dialog.
5) Fill in the "name" and "description" with whatever you wish - preferably something that will help you remember what this dialing rule does.
6) Fill in the Translation respctively:
Phone Pattern: {nl:^([\*#])\s?(\d\{2\})\s?(\d\{4,5\})$}
Translation Pattern: $1$2$3
7) Click "ok" to close the edit dialog
8) Click "ok" to close the settings dialog

So you now have the rule defined, you just have to program the speed call button...

9) From the toolbar's Dial Button menu, choose "Program/Edit Phone Key"
10) Select the button you wish to program
11) Define it's feature as "Speed Call"
12) Fill in a label such as "Call Fwd"
13) Fill in your number: *6955555
14) Chick "save"

Now when you press the "Call Fwd" button, UC Express will first check the number against the User Defined Rules and find your rule and a match. Because of this, it won't apply the windows telephony rules (IE: 9 + area code)

h5. Why do not my Speed Calls appear to use my User Defined Dialing Rules?
Any "User Defined Dialing Rules" will be applied to a Speed Call only as the Speed Call Button is being programmed.
This is to allow UC Express to pass the Speed Call's number with the dialing rules applied on to the phone set.
Changes to "User Defined Dialing Rules" will not be reflected in already programmed "Speed Calls".

h3. Hotdesking

h5. HotDesk user when logging back into 5340 does not initiate a reconnect to UC Express.
There is nothing to notify UC Express that the user is logged-in to his phone therefore there UC Express can't know to connect.

h3. Tray Icon

h5. My tray icon tooltip is appearing behind my taskbar - why?

This is a known issue with XP is that every once in a while the tooltips start showing up behind the taskbar so they can't be seen. This bug goes all the way back to when Microsoft introduced the Windows Shell with explorer.exe back with Windows 95. It can also be seen (though rarely) on Vista.
Searching the web finds this to be a fairly wide spread issue that Microsoft has never addressed.

Microsoft admits the bug is there (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912650) Microsoft's Support FAQ has:
Symtoms: When you move the mouse pointer over the taskbar icons on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, some tooltips are hidden behind the taskbar.

Cause: This issue may occur if you right-click and then open a file from a submenu in the Start menu. For example, this issue may occur when you click Start, point to My Documents or My Recent Documents, right-click a document, and then click Open.

Resolution:
# Log off and back on
# Restart

Status:
This is a known issue in Windows XP.

Applies to:
# Microsoft Windows XP Professional
# Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

There are a couple of other known fixes as well:

# Go to Start/All Programs: Hover over any program listed, right click and select Sort by Name. Repeat once more. (This is the solution most often given around the web - this is a temporary fix)
# Go to Start - Shut down - cancel (this is a temporary fix)
# Right click on taskbar and select properties. In the properties window select(or deselect) the "Keep the tawskbar on top of other windows" option and click apply.
# NeoSmart Technologies have a small app that you can run once to fix the issue called ToolTipFixer 2.0 (http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=10) (This app is highly recommended by people such as O'Reilly (http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/user/view/cs_msg/39143 ) NeoSmart claims this is a permanent fix)
# Nirsoft also has a program to solve this called NirCmd (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html) - install this and run the command
nircmd win settopmost class "tooltips_class32" 1
# Acquaviva Consulting has another program called Tool Tip Manager that they charge 9.95 for (http://www.tooltipmanager.com/)
